Which GP-Grip Is Right for Your Ride? (Before JK, JK, JL, Gladiator & 2024+ Guide)
Share
You just got your Jeep. Or maybe you've had it for years and you're finally getting around to the upgrade you keep putting off.
Either way, you've landed on the GP-Grip — and now you're wondering: which one actually fits my Wrangler?
Short answer: it depends on the year. Here's the full breakdown. 👇

Why Does Jeep Year Matter?
The Jeep Wrangler has changed meaningfully across generations. The JK (2007–2018), JL (2018–2023), and the new JL 4xe (2024+) all have different roll bar dimensions, mounting points, and — critically for 2024 and newer models — side-curtain airbag systems built into the roll bar.
That last part matters a lot. A grab handle that wraps around the roll bar the wrong way on a 2024+ model can interfere with airbag deployment. That's why GPCA makes the GP-Grip AIR specifically for 2024+ Jeeps. It's not a minor update — it's a completely different product built for that generation.
The Quick-Reference Guide: Which GP-Grip Fits Your Jeep?
GP-Grip PRO — fits 2007–2023 Jeep Wrangler JK, JL, and Gladiator JT
GP-Grip AIR — fits 2024+ Jeep Wrangler JL 4xe and Gladiator JT (side-curtain airbag compatible)
GP-Grip LITE Universal — fits TJ, CJ, YJ, LJ, and any roll bar 0.75"–5.5" diameter

GP-Grip PRO: The Original (2007–2023 JK, JL, JT)
The GP-Grip PRO is the one that started it all. Designed for the Jeep Wrangler JK (2007–2018), JL (2018–2023), and the Gladiator JT, it wraps directly around the roll bar with a tool-free strap system — no drilling, no hardware, no headaches.
- Rated to 250 lbs
- Aircraft-grade aluminum handle
- Tool-free install in under 10 minutes
- Available in 13 colors
- Fits front and rear roll bars (JK and JL)
Does it fit the JK and JL the same way? Yes — same installation. Note that JK and JL cargo covers and other accessories are not interchangeable, but the GP-Grip PRO fits both generations without adjustment.

GP-Grip AIR: Built for 2024+ Jeep Wranglers
Starting with the 2024 Jeep Wrangler JL 4xe, Jeep added side-curtain airbags integrated into the roll bar. The original GP-Grip PRO is not designed for this setup. Enter the GP-Grip AIR.
Does the GP-Grip AIR fit 2024 and newer Jeep Wranglers? Yes — the GP-Grip AIR is specifically engineered for 2024+ JL 4xe and Gladiator JT models with side-curtain airbags. It's the correct and safe choice for that generation.
- Designed around 2024+ roll bar geometry and airbag system
- Same 250 lb rating and tool-free install as the PRO
- Can be installed without removing the hard top (lifting the freedom panel makes it easier)
- Works with Spiderweb Shade (install GP-Grip AIR first, strap shade over it after)
Does the GP-Grip AIR work with the Sky One-Touch Power Top? No — neither the PRO nor the AIR fits the Sky One-Touch roof setup. If you have that roof, we recommend the GP Back Grip PRO instead, which attaches to your headrests and works with any vehicle configuration.

GP-Grip LITE Universal: For TJ, CJ, YJ, LJ — and Any Bar Up to 5.5"
Got an older Wrangler — a TJ, CJ, YJ, or LJ? Or maybe a completely different vehicle with a roll cage or grab bar? The GP-Grip LITE Universal has you covered.
The dual-strap design adjusts to fit any round bar from 0.75" to 5.5" in diameter, which means it works on everything from classic Wranglers to custom builds and side-by-sides. It's the most flexible option in the lineup.
- Fits bars 0.75"–5.5" diameter
- Compatible with TJ, CJ, YJ, LJ Wranglers
- Works on custom roll cages, aftermarket bars, UTVs
- Sunglasses case can mount directly on the handle

What About Passengers Who Can't Reach the Roll Bar?
Good question — and one we hear all the time. If your passengers are shorter, prefer not to reach overhead, or if you have the Sky One-Touch roof, the GP Back Grip PRO is the answer.
It attaches directly to the headrest poles (no tools needed) and gives rear passengers a solid handle right at seat level. It fits most vehicles with removable headrests — not just Jeeps.
